Episode 17
The residents wave goodbye to Cliff and there is a surprise for Jackson.
The Robinson’s
Martha Robinson begins to put on her necklace but is having trouble putting it on. Mickey is there and tries to help her but Martha pushes him away. “Leave it Mickey, not to day just leave it” she said. She gets up, grabs the necklace and walks out of the room. Mickey is angry and slams his hands down onto the dresser.
Adele is in her room as Max stands by the door. “You ready?” Adele nods. She embraces him and holds him tight. She begins to cry. He tries to calm his girlfriend down.
Jasmine stands by the window as Joyce looks into thin air. “We’re already Joyce” said Jasmine. “The cars are here” she said as she turned to her fiancé Ken.
“Mom you ready?” Joyce turned to her children. “I am…ready” she keels over distraught. Martha looks on as she now knows how her mother is upset. They help her up and carry her to the cars. They look on as other residents begin to pay their respects. Jackson is about to get into the car as he bumps into someone quite familiar.
“Jackson” an arm reaches out to him. A female arm.
“What are you doing here?”
“To pay my respects Jackson. He is my father in law –“
“Ex father in law and you’re not welcome here” Carly Palmer looks on at Jackson. Jackson gets into the car and sits sombrely next to Martha.
“Everything ok?” Martha asks.
Jackson is quiet.
Carly walked over to the female. “Are you Jackson’s wife?”
“Yes I am, how did you know?”
“From photos, I am Carly Palmer. You can come to the church with me?”
“Tammy and I don’t think I am welcome” she said.
“You can sit with me at the back of the church” said Carly. They walk hand in hand together.
Scene: The Church
The residents follow the Robinson’s and the coffin into the church all sit down. Father Adam Anderson is at the altar.
He begins to read a sermon.
On behalf of the family of the Robinson family I wish to thank each one of you for being here today… and though today is a very difficult day the scriptures makes this promise:
Ps 46:1-3
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling.
And the bible also says;
Rom 8:35-39
35 Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers,
39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Opening Prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, we gather here today to remember the precious life of Cliff We also gather to say goodbye one last time and celebrate the life that he enjoyed here on earth and thank you for each precious moment and memory that we have had with him. His life has touched so many in so many different ways. We pray that your peace and presence will be upon us during this time and we pray this in the name your Son, Amen.
It is at this time that I would ask all those that would like to share something from the life of Cliff to come forward and do so at this time.
Margaret his sister in law walks up on to stairs.
“Tie the strings to my life, my Lord,
Then I am ready to go!
Just a look at the horses --
Rapid! That will do!
Put me in on the firmest side,
So I shall never fall;
For we must ride to the Judgment,
And it's partly down hill.
But never I mind the bridges,
And never I mind the sea;
Held fast in everlasting race
By my own choice and thee.
Good-by to the life I used to live,
And the world I used to know;
And kiss the hills for me, just once;
Now I am ready to go!”

Margaret stops and stands down, Father Adam takes over.
As we gather here this morning to remember the dear and precious life of Cliff I know that many of you are dealing with mixed emotions. On the one hand, there are emotions of great sadness. Sadness not for Cliff because Cliff is in a far better place, but sadness because we have lost a dear loved one.
So today is not a day of mourning but a day of celebration. It’s not a day of regret but truly a day of rejoicing. Today who come to remember the life of Cliff and reminisce over all the special moments that we had with him.
You see Cliff had a relationship that carried some wonderful promises found in John chapter 14:1-6. Let me read that portion of scripture to you.
John 14:1-6 "Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place
Now lets us pray
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. For ever and ever. Amen
All are seated the church is full and everyone in mourning.
Outside a police car pulls up. Kieran and Emma step out of the Taxi.
“I really think we should wait until this is over” said Emma.
“We got evidence saying that they saw Joyce Robinson at the scene of the crime drunk. Think about it. She is playing everyone against each other and I swear if the witness statement is true then she attacked Hannah and I will put her away under lock and key”
Everyone stands as the service ends. Jackson, Mickey, Ken, Steve and Terrance begin to take the coffin away. Everyone else follows.
They turn to the grave yard. All stand.
“In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return” The casket is lowered to the ground. “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust” they all pray.
From the corner of her eye Joyce sees a gleam of light and a wave of a hand.
Joyce smiles.
A hand reaches out. Joyce turns round.
“Oh not now!” Martha scorned.
“Mrs Robinson” said Kieran.
“Yes” all stop.
“Mate you do know what day it is doesn’t you!” Called Steve edging forward, Arthur stops him by the shoulder.
“I am sorry but this is a police matter” he exclaims. “Mrs Robinson I am arresting you on suspicion of attack. You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defense if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence."
Joyce looks stunned as she turns to her family for support.
