Scene: The Inn
Arthur opened the curtains of the Inn. The sun beamed into the window. He smiled. “Wonderful a gorgeous day,” he said. Josie his wife was carrying a box with the help of Steve her nephew. “That’s it straight through there” she said. Arthur walked over. “What is going on?”
“Well I just thought that now we are back we can show everyone where we have been” said Josie excitedly.
“Bore them you mean” said Steve cheekily.
“Ha, these items are not slides these are artefacts and symbols on what our trip meant to us. Now darling I was thinking we should have one on every table.” Steve popped the box down.
“Right I’m out for a bit I be back shortly” Josie looked at Arthur.
“How long will you be?”
“I be back before we open, I promise” said Steve. Steve quickly left the Inn.
“Some of me thinks that he is not up to being back” said Josie.
“What gave it away?”
“The place has properly given him back some bad memories” sighed Josie.
“I am sure that whatever he is thinking he still wanted to come back and help us” said Arthur.
“I should go after him” said Josie.
“What make things worse?”
Scene: The Cafe
Maxwell Burns sat drinking his coffee and reading his newspaper. The woman last night from the club appeared peering over him.
“I’d thought you be in here?”
He put his newspaper down. He gestured for her to sit down.
“What do you want?”
“Is that anyway you’re going to greet your wife!” Max looked glared at his wife Julia Burns.
“I believe I don’t have a wife, my wife and I have not been together for months,” he said. Julie sat down opposite him.
“I think that we had our wires crossed” said Julia.
“Now tell me that you love me and we can forget what has happened and start over” Julia said.
“Oh really just like that, you and me forget what happened and move on to our new lives” said Max.
“Yes” said Julia.
“Its money you ran out of money and you want to come back to me” said
Max angrily.
“Nothing to do with the money Max. I missed you” she said. “Damien has missed you, your son” she said. Again the thought of his son not in his life distraught him.
“Where is he?”
“Staying with my sister Carolyn” he smiled.
“Yeah I know what you’re thinking; she told me everything that happened between you and her. So you can stop denying it!”
“Oh I am not regretting it. She is one of the best” Julia smacked Max around the face.
“I am trying Max. I am here to stay in Riverside and in this part of town and your son will be arriving, so you be expecting to see much more of me, much more!” She got up and left and brushed aside Joyce Robinson. She looked at Max and folded her arms.
Scene: The VITO Cars
Cassandra Robinson stood as her ex husband walked into the office area with his new girlfriend Jasmine Blake. “Here he is my son and heir to the company” he picked up a year old Cody from the pram. Jasmine clasped her hands as she greeted the toddler. “Oh Cass he is so cute” said Jasmine as he was handed to her by Ken.
“Thank you takes after his father” she said.
“Where you be going?”
“Oh we got plans” said Ken.
“But we will bring him back or I could just take you home” said Jasmine cooing all over him. Cassandra took him back.
“Let me change his nappy and I be back” she said. Cassandra walked into the bathroom across the hallway and closed the door.
Back in the hallway. “Is she all right?”
“I think so, overwhelmed I think” he said quite concerned. “Is it ok for us to take Cody” said Ken.
“Ken you know it is, he is your son remember” she said. “Plus we need to give Cass a break” said Jasmine.
“I guess, I am so lucky to have you” he said and kissed her. There was a cough from behind.
“Here he is” she said. Ken turned away from Jasmine and took Cody from Cassandra.
“Ah come on mate lets go and have a day of fun. Jasmine took the bag and car seat from Cassandra. “We talk later” said Jasmine and Cassandra nodded.
As they left the building, Cass sat down at her desk and wept. Cliff knocked at the door.
“Cassandra?” Cassandra wiped her eyes.
“Come in” she said weakly.
“Are you ok?” He said as walked in closing the door behind him.
“Just gave Cody to Ken that’s all. Every time I do that it just gets harder and harder” she said.
“Divorce is not always a good thing” Cliff added.
“It was my fault wasn’t it though that Ken and me broke up. He did nothing and now poor Cody is be paying the price!”
Cliff embraced Cassandra. “I’m sorry for everything” she said.
“Why don’t you take the afternoon off” said Cliff. “Have some rest, you need it” said Cliff.
Cassandra nodded.
Scene: The Inn
Steve walked back into the Inn. “You took your time” said Josie as she was serving a customer from behind the bar. “Am sorry” said Steve. Steve froze as he saw the cue of customers lining up for a drink. “Sorry am so sorry” he said and left the bar area. Arthur followed Steve through to the back and saw him sitting at the bottom of the stairs. “I knew it was too soon for you to come back here” Josie peered through the door.
“I was happy at Sea Crest; I didn’t have to think about the inn, Pam or Ben. I wish I died with them. It’s bringing it all back!” He put his head between his hands. There were flash images going through his mind.
